Socialization- Socialization is the act and process in which a person gains different traits to conform to a society or group. These traits include language, knowledge, social skills, value, and other ideals. The methods used can be upbringing, social integration or other methods. Without socialization, society would not exist because there would be no way to impose norms on people. It, in a way, is social control but with the aim of creating and preserving social order to better a group or community. Socialization prepares people to be accepted and understand what is required of them to be an active participant in the community. Socialization happens all the time in any country when a new baby is born. The baby grows up and becomes one with the society they are raised in.
Ethnography- Ethnography is the in-depth study of a culture or a piece of society. This type of research is done while in close contact with the people/culture that is being studied. Typically, professional ethnographers spend at least one year living with the culture they are studying. This type of long term study allows the ethnographer to get to know the people they are studying. This provided context for day to day life but may also taint opinions over time. The ethnographer would have an "insider" perspective on daily activities while participating in tasks. Another key factor is the process of recording information. Most info is recorded using field notes or logs from the ethnographer. The point is for the notes to be "immersive" and relatable. An example would be "Not a Real Fish". The article was written by an ethnographer who immersed himself is this foreign culture to study and help.
