Political Systems - Japan

Cidette Rice Mr.Roddy IHSS 1/23/2020 Japan's Political System Enacted on May 3rd, 1947, Japan's constitution established a democracy in the form of a constitutional monarchy. Japan's constitution states that while the Emperor is the honorary figurehead of  Japan, they have no real commanding power that hasn't been approved. This is common line for all constitutional monarchies. Even though they are the head of state, the figurehead of a constitutional monarchy can only express their authority while following the approved guidelines set by the constitution of their government. "Wait," You might ponder, "if the figurehead has no definite power in the government, and the constitution decides what the figurehead can do, who manages and upholds the ideals of that constitution?" Well, to answer your question, the three branches of government do! "Wait... but isn't that an American thing?" You mumble. "Yes, the U.S has three b

Political Systems - Kashmir

The disputed territory of Kashmir is one that has been fought over by India and Pakistan for 72 years. It is split into two parts, Jammu (ruled by Pakistan) and Kashmir (ruled by India). The political system of Kashmir is that, the state used to be under a special status within the government of India. Unlike the rest of the states under India, they were able to follow a modified version of the constitution, which allowed the Indian government to have direct legislative powers in the matters of defense, foreign policy, and communications within the state. Yet, this has now changed since August 2019. In August of last year, the government had suspended the modified constitution of Kashmir, and put the territory under the administration of a lieutenant governor, who was appointed by the president of India. Kashmir now has a Legislative Assembly, where members are selected for five-year terms. This is unlike regular state legislatures, which have constitutional authority over public or

Political Systems - Chad

Leon Hoang Mr. Roddy IHSS 21 January, 2020 The Political System of Chad The Republic of Chad is an example of a presidential republic. This means that the current president, (Idris Deby) is both the head of state as well as head of government. However, in recent years, there has been disputes about the current president. In fact several coups have been attempted with the most notable one happening on May 1, 2013. Several individuals that have not been named attempted to destabilize the country by assassinating the president. Fortunately, security forces who were watching closely apprehended the individuals. They found out later that they were planning this coup for months now. Even before this, current president Idriss Deby, gained power by overthrowing the last president Hissene Habre. After the rebellion, president Deby won several presidential elections, one in 1996 and one in 2001. There are several political parties in Chad, and the current one, the Patriotic Salvat

Political Systems - South Africa

Connor Kissack IHSS Mr. Roddy January 22, 2020 South Africa Political Systems South Africa contains a parliamentary republic government with a three tier system: legislative, executive, and judicial. A parliamentary republic government is a republic that operates under a parliament. The president is voted by the people and is taken into an electoral vote. The president of South Africa is elected by the National Parliament and is allowed to serve for a fixed term of five years with at most 2 terms. Executive authority is vested in the President of South Africa who is head of state and head of government, and his Cabinet. The current president of South Africa is Cyril Ramaphosa. As of now, the country isn't doing so great since more than half of the people there are unemployed and when they are they choose to change their currency to USD and move away which is greatly affecting their economy which of course lowers the strength of their government. Political Systems: Florida

Oliver Erdmann Mr. Roddy IHSS 23 January, 2020 Floridas Government Florida is a state in the country United States of America and falls under the U.S. government's jurisdiction, but the U.S. government doesn't control everything. Florida has its jurisdiction, which happens in its state, to a degree. Florida also has a say in what restrictions they are given from the U.S. government through something called the Congress and the House of Representatives. They are able to input their opinions into the main government. Florida has a system called a representative democracy. A representative democracy is where the people elect a person to represent them and their interests. The system does have its problems such as if a leader is elected who is corrupt but this system has done Florida well by making it the 2nd most financially stable state within the United States even though it is over 20.6 Billion dollars in debt. Florida has 27 congr

Political Systems: Canada

Political Systems: Canada      Canada is a self-governing country in North America with a federal constitutional monarchy, ruled by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canada is also a part of the Commonwealth of the Queen. Canada has a functioning government that operates by having an open and democratic parliamentary system, which consists of three parts: the Queen, the Senate, and the House of Commons. Canada was originally under the rule of Great Britain, but was established as an independent Dominion with the British Empire in 1867. The Canadian government is overall a stable government with a functioning method of ruling their citizens: they have a good health care system, enforce their laws and rules of the constitution, as well as having very short elections (about a three month time period, as opposed to the American method, where it takes about two years). But, as well as the government functions, the approval ratings for their leader aren't very high; Justin Trudeau has a

Political Systems: China

Sara Avalos Mr. Roddy IHSS 1 January, 2020 Political Systems- China Since 1949 the Communist Party has ruled over the People's Republic of China. The Communist Party has complete political authority and governs following democratic centralism, the only thing that is above the Communist Party ins the constitution. This form of government allows for open discussion about policy decisions, with this all of the members have to uphold group decisions once the vote is made. The Politburo Standing Committee is in control of the Communist Party and the military, they have about four to nine members. The Politburo Standing Committee is short for the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China; which is a group of the top Communist leaders in China. The Paramount leader has the most governmental power. China's government is composed of four divisions; the legislative, the executive, the judiciary, and the military.  The first part of the Chinese govern

Political Systems - Fabricio

Brazilian Federative Republic Brazil has a government that has a very similar in structure to the American government. It is a federal republic that works in the same way as a representative democracy, where the people vote for representatives who vote in the national congress. The national congress is made up both the Câmera Dos Deputados (similar to the House Of Representatives, except the Brazilian representatives are voted on by state, not district) and the Senado Federal. Brazil also has a supreme court and a president. The president, like in the United States, can run for two four year terms. However, the president can run again after two terms as long as there is one term in between. In the supreme court, there are 11 judge positions, and the court works the same way as the American one, except it is mainly used as a sort of last resort. It has, in recent events, been criticized harshly due to corruption and political favoritism. These three factors make up the jud

Political Systems- Sweden

Political Systems- Sweden Sweden has a constitutional monarchy as well as a parliamentary Democracy. This is a form of a representative democracy.  In Sweden, the people vote on which party will represent them in their Parliament, known as the Riksdag. The Swedish parliament has 349 seats, and are decided through a general election, in which everybody over the age of 18 is allowed to participate.  The general public is also able to take a greater part in politics through many methods- including voting on referendums. In these situations, the result that comes out of the general public is the one that is ultimately used and/or adopted. Their most recent one was in 2003, where they decided whether or not to adopt the Euro as their currency. Ultimately they decided against it, and they now use Swedish Krona. In addition, Sweden also has a Prime Minister,  who forms cabinets. The Prime Minister is voted on and decided by the Parliament.  Sweden’s Constitution, along with reg

Political System - Cuba

Isaak Townsend Cuba is a country that has been Communist in the past, during the time of Fidel Castro, who enforced Communism. Communism is a system, that in theory, would work better for the people than any other system, by eliminating the risk of failure. Each person would do their best work to better their country and each person would be paid the same, and the government would have total power. But when put in to practice, because people get paid the same, regardless of what they do, or how they do it, they will do the least effort and easiest jobs they can get.  Because of the fact that the government has total power its like the book "Animal Farm."   " Power  tends to  corrupt , and  absolute power  corrupts absolutely".( Sir John Dalberg-Acton, 8th Baronet). During its time of being Communist, many people tried to get out of Cuba. Because from things that the refugees from Cuba have said, the government controlled everything. It told you what do, what to thi

It consists of the cabinet, which is led by the prime minister. The legislative branch makes laws. The legislative branch is parliament which is also led by the Prime minister. Political System- Colombia

Colombia is located in South America. It  is known as the first independent constitutional government of the continent. The country is also home to two of the oldest political parties in South America. T he Liberal Party was founded in 1848 and the Conservative Party was founded in 1849. To make a separation of power, Colombia is divided into three branches, executive, judicial, and legislative. The executive branch consists of the President, Vice President, Council of Ministers, and Administrative Departments. The legislative branch is in charge of enacting laws and policies.  This is carried out by the bicameral Congress, which is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The judicial branch makes sure that all citizens have justice and provide courts to resolve conflict. Political Systems - Venezuela

V enezuela is a country on the northern coast of South America and it is full of natural attractions. Venezuela is listed as a Federal Presidential Republic, there is a president who is both head of state and head of the government of Venezuela. Currently, Venezuela is in a bad state, people are constantly out on the streets protesting against the violence of their government and the violence of the criminals. The people of Venezuela are fighting for food, safety and freedom, but how did this happen? Venezuela used to be the richest country in South America, it has the largest known oil reserves in the word and its democratic government system was once praised all around the world. Today, Venezuela's economy and government is in shambles they currently have the highest inflation rate in the world, they're GDP dropped by 35% in the past four years which is even worse that what America experienced in the Great Depression. The countries murder rate went from one of the lowest to o

Political Systems - The Netherlands

Micah Weinstock Mr. Roddy IHSS 1/22/2020 Political System of The Netherlands              The Netherlands has an extremely complicated political system. It is listed as consociational state, a constitutional monarchy, a parliamentary representative democracy, and a decentralized unitary state. I am going to break down what each of these terms mean because all of them are ridiculously confusing. A consociational state is a state where a political system is formed by the cooperation of different social groups on the basis of shared power. A constitutional monarchy is a system of government in which a monarch shares power with a constitutionally organized government. A parliamentary representative democracy is complicated and no other country has it. I will explain it to the best of my ability.  Democracy is a system of government that bases its legitimacy on the participation of the people. A parliamentary democracy is   a type of representative democracy where political power i

Political Systems- Argentina

Sofi Savarese Mr. Rody IHSS 1/22/20 Argentina  Argentina is an example of a presidential representative democratic republic, this means that the president is the head of both the state and government. Like our own, the Argentinian government operates in three branches, the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Argentina has a bicameral national congress, which contains the senate and the chamber of deputies. The vice president is in charge of the senate which consists of 72 members who are elected directly by a simple vote. The chamber of deputies is much larger and consists of 257 members. The deputies serve 4 years while the senate members serve six years in office. Senate members are in charge of ratifying international treaties, changing the federal revenue politics, impeaching the president or members of the cabinet, and approving changes to constitutional laws. Deputies work on drafting troops and levying taxes. At the age of 16 citizens start to vote. The election proc

Political Systems- Turkey

Ellery Germain IHSS January 21, 2020 Turkey political system Turkey is a Republic Parliamentary Democracy. The country risk rating is about in between acceptable risk and high risk. But the corporate default is high. The freedom rating is 5.5/7 as well as the political rights. The Civil Ratings is 6/7 with 1 being the most free and 7 being the least free. According to the OSCE, the 2018 elections were marred by a number of flaws, including misuse of state resources by the ruling party to gain an electoral advantage, as well as intimidation of and attacks on the HDP and other opposition parties. Following that, In April, two HDP members of parliament were removed from office due to criminal convictions for “insulting a public employee” and membership in a terrorist organization. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been the ruling party in Turkey since 2002. A The head of the government is Prime Minister Binali Yildirim. The people have had many troubles with their government. Political Systems- Rwanda

Luke Kirchner Rwanda's Government      For this assignment, I chose to research Rwanda. In 1978, the constitution issued in a presidential system, different from two separate heads from before. In 1991, a revision was created that allowed for multi-party participation. Suddenly president Juvenal Habyarimana was suddenly assassinated in 1994, creating a 'power vacuum' and chaos ensued. This happened so fast, elections could not be held to maintain order. The Rwandan genocide was brutally intense as over 1,000,000 Rwandans were murdered and 250,000 to 500,000 women were raped. While this seemed quick to happen, reports say the genocide was planned over a year in advance. With a new constitution in 1995, Rwanda began to amend its governmental system.      Rwanda is now a multiparty republic. In accordance with the 2003 constitution, the presentient, who serves as head of state, was elected for a seven-year term that was renewable once. In 2015, the constitution was aga

Political Systems - Israel

Asher Forman Mr. Roddy IHSS 21 January 2020 Political Systems - Israel      The Israeli government is a parliamentary system and a democratic republic. The parliament aspect of Israel is made up of something called the Knesset, which is 120 different people that approve bills, laws, and more. They are on a four-year term until people of Israel vote on other people that should be in the Knesset. Not just that, but Israel also has something called the "basic laws," which act as a constitution, but isn't exactly recognized as one. What this means is that the Knesset was having some difficulty with coming up with a constitution for this country. So, they ended up deciding to start putting down these "basic laws," which essentially act like a constitution that represents the policies of this country. These laws were established on February 12, 1985, by the third Knesset. What's interesting is that the Prime Minister and the President are both chosen from t

political system- Mexico

Ariela Kluk Mr. Roddy IHSS 01/21/20 Government in Mexico Mexico is a democratic federal republic made up of 32 states. The Mexican government is stable and the president was elected for his normal six year term. There are concerns that he might try to re elect himself, which is illegal in mexico because there are no re-elections. The president of Mexico (Andrés Manuel López Obrador) is head of the government. The country has a multiparty system (there many small parties but most of the elected representatives belong to 6 parties) and the president is the leader of one of those parties which is called “MORENA” (Movimiento Regional Nacional or National Regional Movement). There are 500 congressmen in Mexico, 308 of them are part of the same party as the president (MORENA). There are 128 Senate members in Mexico and 69 of them belong to MORENA. This helps the president because any law that he requests gets passed, this is good for him but not for the opposition. In Mexico, like in
