I chose to do Ethnocentrism and Diffusion for my two words.
Ethnocentrism is when you feel that your culture is superior to other cultures. Examples of this include the early American’s treatment of the African Americans. The Americans wrongly believed that the African Americans were lesser beings. They were so blinded by their twisted beliefs that they were able to justify treating them worse than livestock. Ethnocentrism is dangerous because it can lead to violent treatment toward people that isn’t right. Even if another culture is not as developed doesn’t make it inferior and it certainly doesn't give me the right to play judge, jury, and executioner. Sadly some people do truly believe this and it is a real problem that didn’t die out and still is a real problem in modern society.
Diffusion is when something from one culture comes over to another, but sometimes it doesn’t transmit right and the original meaning is misunderstood. Examples of diffusion are all around us, I would bet that every house is america has something in it that is a result of diffusion. Just looking around my room I see my chinesse calendar, a sushi keychain, and a half drunk bottle of Italian soda. Without diffusion I wouldn’t be able to go out for sushi, eat a taco, or order dominos pizza. Without diffusion their wouldn’t even be a toilet in your bathroom. All of these regular everyday objects and foods weren’t created in America so they are a result of diffusion. Also unless your family is 100% native American they even you are a result of diffusion.
