Political Systems: Canada

Political Systems: Canada

Canada is a self-governing country in North America with a federal constitutional monarchy, ruled by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canada is also a part of the Commonwealth of the Queen. Canada has a functioning government that operates by having an open and democratic parliamentary system, which consists of three parts: the Queen, the Senate, and the House of Commons. Canada was originally under the rule of Great Britain, but was established as an independent Dominion with the British Empire in 1867. The Canadian government is overall a stable government with a functioning method of ruling their citizens: they have a good health care system, enforce their laws and rules of the constitution, as well as having very short elections (about a three month time period, as opposed to the American method, where it takes about two years). But, as well as the government functions, the approval ratings for their leader aren't very high; Justin Trudeau has a shocking 57% disapproval rating. There are many reasons for such a high disapproval towards Trudeau: first of all, a lot of people compare him to Trump, in the sense that he is more of a celebrity than a leader. Another reason he is widely disliked is because of his racism scandal; back in 2001, while Trudeau was just a private school teacher, he wore a brown face costume to an "Arabian Nights" themed school gala, which caused him some trouble later on in life, as the photos reemerged and created a major scandal. Also, even further in the past, Trudeau dressed up in blackface for a show when he was in high school, where he sang the Jamaican folk song "Day O" for his school talent show. Trudeau has since apologized for all of these scandals, but not all of his citizens have forgiven him. Overall, Canada is a functional country with an overall stable government, but not all Canadians are Justin Trudeaus biggest fans, and for plenty of reasons.
