the republic of cyprus is a unitary presidential representative republic. this is where an elected official is chosen to be the president as well as the head of state government. The country is split into two parts and has been that way since 1974. the northern part is owned by turkey and the southern part is the independent republic of cyprus. there were some conflicts within the country but currently cyprus is stagnant, it has also become a very popular tourist attraction. the president is Nicos Anastasiades and is saving his country from their previous debt crisis. He is also has hope to unite the two sides of the island. There was an arranged meeting in 2015 with a talk about the island but they ended two years after and the country is still divided. although the suffered an economic crisis Cyprus is one of the fastest growing economically and are reaching stability quickly. As far as voting goes none of the greek resedents are able to vote for who they want for president
