Interview 1 and 2
My Challenge project topic is healthcare in the United States. For my first two interviews, I decided to interview Charles Gaba and Pong Velasquez. The first person I interviewed is Charles Gaba who is a professional freelance website developer. He doesn’t actually have any medical background, but when the affordable care act was put in place he became very interested in it. He decided to start ACA signups so that there was one place where people could see data on the affordable care act. I wanted to interview him because he knows a lot about the affordable care act as well as how the United States has implemented it. In the interview, we talked about the affordable care act, what ways we could improve the United States healthcare system, and a lot of the politics involved in healthcare. This interview was really great because it gave me a more in-depth look at the affordable care act as I didn’t look that much into it for my essay. I also got great information on the benefits and downside of the affordable care act. The second person I interviewed is Pong Velasquez, who is the Chief Financial Officer of Nursing Resource Home Health Services. His business provides at-home care for mainly the elderly. I wanted to interview him because he has a business in the healthcare industry and I could learn about the more business side of the health care industry. In our interview, we talked about his business, the affordable care act, the cost of healthcare, and the current pandemic. Something that was very interesting to learn about is that even though the affordable care act provided many benefits for businesses it came with a lot of downsides. Velasquez’s business has had to spend a lot more money on legal expenses, they have had to provide less care in order to save money, and they have had to be more selective with the people they provide care for. In the interview, he said that one of the things he spends the most money on is legal expenses for his business. It was interesting to know that there are definitely some major downsides for businesses in the healthcare industry since the affordable care act was put in place.
