Immigration to the united states
For my blog I chose to read about the immigtration to the united states. In the late 1800 there were many reasons why people chose to immigrate to the united states such as job failure, freedom of religion/government, and raising taxes, but the main reason was because the U.S was perceived as “As the land of economic opportunity ''. Immigrants arrived in the United States in a few different places. Immigrants from Europe arrived in East coast facilities, and immigrants from Asia immigrated through the West coast centers. Even though the East and West coast centers and facilities were very common, a majority of immigrants traveled through New York which was otherwise known as the Golden Door.
The second article that I read was the First land. The article explains more in detail about immigrtation through New York. In 1855 the state of New York opened the Castle Gardens. The Castle Gardens was a place where officials could assist immigrants in exchanging money, finding a place to stay, and getting a train ticket to where they were traveling. Soon the conditions of the Castle Gardens started to become bad so the government overruled the state and closed the Castle Gardens and reopened a new bigger immigration station in the new york harbor on Ellis Island in 1892. In this center immigrants had to take a medical test and were questions about jobs and their intents for entering the U.S.
