Interview of Joe and Johanna Wilson - Andy Walsh

Joe and Johanna live in Texas and have 3 boys. They are both competition shooters and own a gun manufacturing company together. They make their own ammunition and compete around the country in shooting tournaments. They are large supporters of the 2nd Amendment and what I found surprising is that Joe grew up in a household where guns weren’t allowed. But he was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to learn about and shoot guns. They are both big advocates for concealed carry and they both carry guns wherever they go. One may think that owning many guns and also having children in your house is very dangerous but for Joe and Johanna it is the complete opposite. They taught their kids about guns at a very young age, they’re kids know how to shoot and even build guns. You may think that this is insane but it is actually the safest form of “gun control”. Education is the number one step in preventing tragedies relating to guns. Joe and Johanna’s children know exactly what to do when they see a gun and they know that guns are very dangerous when they are put in the hands of a dangerous person. Joe described it as “Removing the mystery from the firearm”. Kids are inherently drawn to learn about things and play with things that they don’t know about. By teaching their children about guns it makes their household safer. When I asked the question: how can we make gun education more accessible? They said that it should be implemented into public schools, which makes sense. People always fear the unknown and when you look at someone who is anti-gun, chances are they have never shot a gun. They know nothing about guns and how they work. Leading them to be scared of something that isn’t harmful when it is treated correctly.
