Plan of Engagement
For my plan for the engagement, I would like to post flyers around our local community advertising ways that each individual can help prevent reef destruction. Since many people are unaware of the issues because in Houston we do not live close to a reef, I will show pictures on each individual poster displaying these issues. I will post a variety of posters throughout my neighborhood and create a video to post on my neighborhood website to make sure that more people see it. This will be very beneficial especially during this time because a lot of families are out and about enjoying the weather out with their family. This will help more people become more aware of the issue and possibly encourage them to research coral reef destruction on their own.
For my contacts, I have decided to find people that have experience with the Flower Garden Banks which is the closest reef to un which is in the Gulf of Mexico. I have contacted the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary and have gotten time and date for a virtual meeting this week with a specialist that works there. This is very exciting because this is somewhat a big foundation and when I contacted them they were interested and emailed me back very quickly so I am very excited about that. My second contact will be Dr. Savarese (my mom). For her master's degree, she studied Flower Bankes for three years so she will be giving me any overall information for a viewpoint of a student such as what she studied and her experience while working in the flower gardens.
