Engagement Plan: Sutton
After completing an extensive research paper and conducting interviews with my contacts, I am ready to share my finalized Engagement Plan for my 2020 Challenge Project regarding Houston's preparedness for an outbreak. While the entire world is currently experiencing COVID-19, my "solution" is going to target my neighborhood and school community. Using Canva, I am going to create a education and motivational infographic to spread awareness on how individuals can protect themselves, share fun facts regarding the virus, and also shine a light on how proud we should be of how Houston has handled this catastrophe. I am either going to print out around 30 black and white flyers to put on the door of some houses in my neighborhood or I am going to print 15 colored posters to put on the fences of local parks or on lamp posts. I will also share a digital copy through email with my classmates as well as post it on the Post Oak School Instagram page.
Specific details of infographic:
- Encourage wearing masks
- Share volunteer organizations that need help
- Share credible media sources to follow instead of TV
- Inspirational quote "your personal choice determines your communities potential future"
- Highlight how well Houston has adapted to the pandemic
- For neighborhood flyer - add link to community website
In addition to creating this flyer, I am going to post a photo on social media of me wearing a mask and tag my friends. This will encourage them to post a photo of them wearing a mask and tag more people. Hopefully, by taking advantage of social media, I can reach a wider range of people and help make wearing masks "cool". This idea spurred from my interview with Lindy Mcgee, a pediatrician. She talked about how, right now, people look at those who are wearing masks and think they are overreacting. On the other hand, in other countries, if you are not wearing a mask, people will think you are a selfish jerk. Wearing masks only works if everyone wears them and I want people to know that wearing masks is the only way we will ever return to our normal lives. Through this social media post and through the flyer, I hope to educate, motivate, and activate my school and neighborhood communities!
