While I was engaging with the community and researching about plastic pollution regarding beaches and coral reefs I learned that civic engagement requires you to contact the right people. As a high school student, important people and companies will not give me the time to interview them. Luckily I was able to find two specialists who gave me part of their time, It requires consistent checking in and flexibility. Once the person you have contacted accepts your interview request you must be flexible and compromise to their time and availability. This is was one of my challenges, which is why I reached out to people on the education side of their business. I interviewed two specialists in coral reefs, Christi Savarese, and Kelly Drinnen, who work with children to help raise awareness.  I also interviewed two homeowners of Galveston beach houses: Paige Peaches and Lisa Gross. I would say two of my largest successes were raising awareness on social media and getting a lot of information form my interviews which expanded my knowledge allowing me to raise awareness for coral reefs. 
I believe that it is my job to continue helping the environment and raise awareness of plastic pollution long term. I am going to leave my posters up on Facebook longer so that more people will become aware of plastic pollution, I will be responding to all comments that I receive and give as much feedback and possible solutions to anyone who would like to help. For my part, I am going to participate in as many beach cleanups as I can after this pandemic. I will be taking friends to the beach and spending even a few minutes cleaning up the beach. All it takes is a garbage bag and dedication to saving as little as two turtles and three birds.  I believe that it is important for people to raise awareness because most citizens are not aware of the situations we are putting the environment. Making people aware of these tragedies and solutions will encourage more people to help. I think civic engagement is really important to show the issues in this world and the consequences that occur from then and how each individual can do their part to help.

Gabriel Han Sep 16 IHSS Cultural Anthropology Blog I read an article about the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a study around them conducted by MIT. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a series of ancient Hebrew texts that were discovered in 1947. The study was focused on one scroll known as the Temple scroll, out of the 900 or so scrolls. Further Investigation of Immigration

Andreas Cantu Mr. Roddy IHSS 12 April 2020 Chinese Immigration  Between the years 1845 and 1855 the US saw a massive influx of chinese immigrants. This was due to the gold rush in California. Chinese immigrants would leave the friends and family in search of a better life with more opportunities in America, and gold rush gave them their best shot at making it big in America. Although they had hopes to join the gold mining most of them took jobs with coal mining companies for little to no commision. This was huge problem for the immigrants, because it made life in America very difficult. As time went on they had begun opening up small business wherever they could, this helped them integrate their culture into the American culture and help them feel more at home. Thoughts on Engagement

After doing the research for my challenge project on kill and no kill animal shelters, I have decided that I want to find a way to educate people on the internet without stating any form of opinion in order to be informative without being offensive. What I want to do is make a website that will have information both good and bad on kill and no kill animal shelters in an effort to educate the public on the matter. many people will for blind opinions on specifically kill shelters as they don't do the research and end up attacking people without any information on the matter.
