Syncretism: Syncretism is taking traits that are both familiar and different and putting them together to incorporate them into a culture. It is in many ways similar to acculturation with the taking of traits from a different society, but it is different because it is a quicker transition due to the keeping of some traits from the original culture. There are many examples of syncretism in religion throughout history. One famous example of this is when Alexander the Great made his conquest through Asia he and the Romans brought with them strong ideas of religion. When they conquered Persia they spread many of these ideas into the culture that was already there. Although there are other forms of syncretism the most common we see is people spreading their religious ideas to other cultures around the world and around to places they conquer. Although we often don't realize it we have little bits of syncretism happening to us every day. Whether it is just an idea being put in our head that we agree with and think a little about, this is still a way we are being given new ideas and slowly adapting them into our lives.
Linguistics: Linguistics or linguistic anthropology is the study of languages and its function within cultures or just the general study of language. Linguistic anthropologists often study places where the language is spoken is largely related to the culture in that place. Many anthropologists study how language relates to the social part of a culture. Although we often take it for granted, language is such a big part of our daily lives. It is how we communicate with each other, how we make friends, how we learn. It is also how can learn more about people and the world. Without linguistics, we would not be able to communicate or understand people in the way that we can. Although it is a part of our day that we can often forget about, it is also a part that takes lots of studying to figure out how languages evolve, change and adapt to different places.
