Affordibility of Vodka and Alcoholism in Russia
Russia has one of the highest incidence rates of alcoholism. It's most likely because of the over comsuption of alcohol. There are millions of alcoholics in russia. There are also about 4 times the amount of heavy drinkers as there are alcoholics. One thing that impacts the incidence rate of alcoholism is the avalibility and affordibility of alcohol. The aim of the study was to find out the relationship between the affordibility of vodka and alcoholism incidence rates. The affordability of vodka has increased rapidly since the 1990s. In the 1990s with an average salary you could only buy about 12 liters of vodka. In 2015 its a whopping 90 liters of vodka. In 1992 the affosdibility went down but the started to rise. The study found that prices in vodka have no relationships with incidence alcoholism rates. This contardicts what a study found previously that alcohol related harm is closely related to prices on alcohol. The russian government had taken several measures to reduce alcohal related harm. They introduced a minumin price for vodka in 2010. They also incresed the tax on vodka.
