Enculturation
Enculturation is when a person or people learn new cultures from a people they have come in contact with. This mostly includes adopting cultures, biases, and values from one culture. One example of this was when the Spanish discovered “The New World” and they forced their teachings on the indigenous peoples they encountered. They set up missions and forced the Christian religion on people.
Transculturation
Almost the opposite of the above, transculturation is when one person or a group of people go to a new place and adopt the cultures of the people that lived there before them. When the person in the reading went to the Solomon Islands he began to adopt some of their cultures and he began to adopt their diet but he always held on to part of his original western culture.
