Banning Swearing
This article talks a lot about how wherever there is language there will be swearing, and attempts to prevent this type of language from being used is on the rise. The problem is that, as long as people see it and hear it from social media, they are gonna think of it as a cool thing to do. Another point that I agreed with is that swearing helps to add emphasis to what you are trying to say, and I could not agree more. I have found that when you are in a discussion and you notice that your audience is dozing off throwing in a cuss makes them wake up and start asking themselves "did he just say what I think he just said." Then boom they are listening again hoping you say something like that again. Another issue with trying to eradicate places of swear words, is that as long as it's a popular trend and right now like I said earlier due to social media and TV it is a big trend. It seems as if every show that's popular right now has swearing of some kind. So when us kids see famous people saying these words, we try to act like them by saying what they say. I think that it is important to remember that swearing is not just used for being rude or making a joke, but you can use these words in times of stress. If you are in a situation where you can't run around and hit something, letting out an aggressive cuss word could be just as therapeutic. Swearing also has a special place in our brain, like I said earlier its used for relieving stress. But a study was done a man who pretty much forgot how to speak due to an accident, but when asked a question he was able to let out a pretty weak one but a swear none the less. This shows that although some people may not like it swearing is important to humans in ways that we had not realized. So no I do not think trying to ban swearing is the right thing to do in a world that swears a lot.
