Natural Disaster: Much Space for Progress
A tornado killed 162 people in Missouri. Many more natural disasters happen when we least expect it. The article talks about how natural disaster awareness is important, so that casualties, loss of property and money can be easily avoided. Looking back on previous natural disasters can help us determine the ways to increase storm awareness. This also means that emergency management agencies have to take steps to help people be aware. But sometimes it is the people’s fault. Usually when there are tornado or other natural disaster warnings, some people ignore and completely disregard it. This brings up the question about how and why people could be so careless when a warning could save their lives. There are multiple reasons to this, one being that in the past, some of the warnings have been ‘false alarm’ types of warnings, and they don’t want to repeat a mistake so they just ignore it.
Also studies have shown that poor and uneducated people that have no access to technology and warning sources are more likely to not take any protective measures. However, an ideal way to avoid a tornado is to build a storm room without any openings like windows. But, said poor people would maybe not have the money to afford this. Studies have also shown that people that are directly involved in a natural disaster are very much more aware then those that weren’t. So the only way to find out is to be in it.
