Linguistics about the word OK
Linguists believe that the word ok came from one of these three origins; oll korrect ( all correct), a native American word, or a nickname for an older U.S president. Regardless of where it came from the word ok is a very diverse word. It can be used as a noun, verb, adverb or adjective. It means everything is good or okay. I found interesting that the word ok is fairly new. I personally use the word ok very often. It is a very common word to hear because it simply covers the way you feel. I did further research and found out that the word ok was invented in 1840 when, the presidential election was occurring.
They were referring to Martin Van Buren, who is from Kinderhook, NY and they called him Old Kinderhook. oll korrect is another way of saying all correct, this is why ok is used mainly to agree with something or say everything is fine. It came from a fad where they used old abbreviations. I also found out that “ok” has been added as an accepted word in the Scrabble game. Ok can be spelled okay or it can also be spelled OK. Either way is acceptable as it means the same thing. In conclusion, Ok/ okay is a great way to communicate with someone about the way you feel.
