This article was about how many different languages are natively spoken throughout the world in different countries. The article inflates the countries based on how many native languages are still spoken there.

While I was reading this article I was interested at the fact that all of the cultures around the world all spoke verbally and not through some sort of sign language. Sure, they had sign language, but their main source of communication was through speech. I tried to research it further but the only things that would pop up were things like "cultural differences in language." If I were to make my own theory, I would say that it is hard wired into our brains that we need to speak. Perhaps it is because it some how helped us when we were still in our primitive state. However, after a long time researching, I found this article "Cognitive Relevance Involved in Verbal Communication: A Perspective of the Personal Experience Theory." It says that we may have developed speech because it was easier to get someones attention and some have theorized that it was because we developed an early economy with the trading of shells for other goods and that's why. But nevertheless, this is an interesting topic to research.
