A lost Mayan city name Sac Balam was founded around 400 years ago in 1695 by the Spanish. It was made by the Lacandon tribe in the jungle because they saw the jungle as safety, the city was not beautiful like other Mayan cities it was just there to live in. Sac Bulam means white jaguar in the Lacandon language. It has never been a very touristic spot but that may be because it has not been completely re discovered. It was ruled by the indigenous groups, they were the southern mexican natives. Twenty years after the spanish rediscovered it they left it and it slowly faded away until archaeologist decided to go out and find it to learn about the Lacandon’s culture. The maya’s was a huge culture the covered about 400,000 kilometers of land, for this reason there was not one emperor each city had its own ruler. The spanish forced the Mayan’s to convert to christianity for this reason the Sac Balam was built in the jungle, it was far and safe. The city was originally called Lakem Tum on an island but after several attacks they moved into the jungle. It took so long to be founded because it was built to stay hidden so the spanish would not find them. A lot of Mayans fled to this city when in trouble or doubt to stay safe as well as the Lacandon tribe who lived there. In the end it was the second to last mayan independent city to be conquered. Once the city is found Lozada Toledo a digital archaeologist record would like to rebuild the trading networks of Sac Balam. This city is still out there and there are so many people who want to find it and learn about the culture of the Lacandon tribe.
