I decided to write about The Republic of Peru. Peru has a republic type of government. They have a President that is elected by the citizens of the Country. The citizens are forced to vote by law though. They have three branches of the government similar to the U.S. The Peruvian government is stable to a certain degree but has corruption with the presidents constantly having to resign due to past contracts or bad things they did in the past dug up by the citizens. Three former presidents are under investigation and one former president who shot himself while being arrested. The most recent president that resigned was Pedro Pablo Kuczynski who was elected in 2016. He was arrested for suspected money laundering in 2018. In 2018 the vice president Martín Vizcarra was elected as president and a new vice president Mercedes Aráoz was appointed. In 2019 Martín Vizcarra dissolved the congress which means he essentially got rid of it. Mercedes Aràoz didn’t agree with this. The congress decided to not listen to Vizcarra and to basically ignore him and follow Aráoz. Later Aráoz resigned saying that the government is broken. So the Peruvian government isn’t exactly the best but the government is becoming stable with the current president being very tough on corruption. Everyone seems to enjoy the current president but he has decided to call for elections early to be able to leave the office sooner than planned.
