Thoughts of Engagement
For my challenge project, I decided to do Police Brutality. Police Brutality as a whole has never been fully gotten rid of. To this day, we are still seeing police racial profiling and harm innocent people. This is a very hard topic to combat. As a 16-year-old, I don't believe I have the power to take on this problem. But I do want to try and see what the people of my community think. I have recently found out that people in my neighborhood have a community meeting of sorts every week to discuss problems in the neighborhood. Police brutality has been a problem where I live, and I feel I could take it to them and see their opinions on it, and ways we as a whole could combat it. I would even like to send out a form to our school community. Send everyone a form, and ask their opinions on how they feel. I would like to also send that data to an organization that deals with it, or even to a local police department. I have seen police brutality first hand, and which is why I'm so motivated for it to stop. I believe pulling my communities into this, we could really make some change. It would be a very long process, but I feel we could make it happen. Now when all of the data is compiled, I will send it out to the school, and to my own community. With it, we will take it to an organization that deals with police brutality, to see if we could get out voices heard.
