Thoughts on Engagement

For my engagement on my challenge project I really want to focus on bringing the benefit of parks and greenspaces to people. One of the things I realized a lot when I was researching is that people have found a false sense fo satisfaction in doing things that parks are supposed to give you. For my engagement I really want to focus on making people aware of all the health benefits they receive when they go to parks and how other things such as watching tv, or even going to the gym are not giving you these same benefits. There are many people who do research on parks and feel very passionate about it so I thought I would try to contact one expert just in general, and then also an expert specifically in Houston. I want to contact Peter Harnik who is the author of the book I used for a lot of the research in my paper and I want to see his ideas for getting people to utilize parks and see if he has any predictions are how they are going to be used especially since everything has been happening with the coronavirus. I also want to focus on an expert specifically in Houston because this will make it much more feasible for me to engage. I am trying to get into contact with someone from Green Houston to see what they can tell me.
Hopefully I can get good advice from these people on good ways to engage, especially during this time, but as of right now I want to make a poster or something I can send out to the school that has information about everything that parks do for you. I want to include stuff like how since high schoolers can be really busy even a little time outdoors can benefit you and it would include a map of all the parks around Houston then also some greenspaces just a little ways outside of the city. Since we are all supposed to be in social distancing at this time it is tricky to be encouraging people to go to parks, many of which are closed but I want to still make people aware so after this is over they can utilize parks and greenspaces.
