Thoughts on Engagement

After thorough research and analyzation, I have concluded that my Challenge Project topic, air pollution, is an extremely dangerous issue that ought to be dealt with promptly. It is already a very prevalent problem for which awareness has been raised plenty throughout the years, but despite all of the protests and marches, the problem is still here. How is that so? Personally, I am bombarded by my peers with constant comments on how to watch my carbon footprint and stay aware of the effect that every little thing I do has on our environment: my use of single-use plastics, the amount of driving I do, basically anything I do in my daily life. So, if there's so many people who advocate for the protection of our environment, how come problems like pollution are still so prevalent in our world? It's because it's the same people using a metal straw and yelling to "save the turtles" that are drinking out of a single-use plastic Starbucks cup and driving their white range rovers to Chick-fil-A every day. People will go on for hours preaching about saving the environment and putting a stop to global warming, but at the end of the day, everyone loves their fast cars and hamburgers, not recognizing that their contributing as much to the decay of the environment as anyone else. People bandwagon and conform, believing that just advocating preaching is enough, but it's not. Action needs to be taken if we want to make any progress in healing our planet.
I'd like to reach out to experts on the topic to get enough information for some sort of video PSA or something like that. Considering everyones worlds have been moved online, it'd be most efficient to create something using the internet. If not a PSA, then some sort of program, or a GoFundMe for a preexisting organization that is fighting to stop air pollution/global warming. I am going to continue researching to find an organization I feel comfortable doing that with, and if that idea fails, a PSA with links to different resources will suffice.
I also plan on working within my own Post Oak community to take action. Not only would the previously mentioned PSA be presented to the public, but specifically to my community as well. I think a good way to make sure that I'm not just preaching this and that to whoever doesn't care is to emphasize ways we can change and also to emphasize what will happen if we don't. The future is scary to people, and the truth is scarier. Emphasis on those ideas could lead to change in our community, and though our community is small, it's definitely a start.
