Final Blog

For my engagement, my original plan was to make an info graphic and post it on the POS instagram page, with the post oak community being my audience. However, after emailing the person in charge of the instagram, that plan was effectively shut down. I was told they could not post it because it isn't appropriate for everyone because they may have different views than me. My backup plan is to then hang up the info graphic in my neighborhood. Something I learned from this was that when doing this civic engagement part of the project, if you want to partner with someone, they have to have the same views as you that doesn't clash with their social and public image. Which seems obvious but wasn't something that crossed my mind till later. For example, if I partnered with Planned Parenthood, then they wouldn't have to worry about how this impacts their image because they are openly on one side of the argument. However, the school as a whole has to stay neutral in these things because they have many students and parents with different views and opinions. Taking one side in these political arguments and views could cause them to lose students.
In terms on continual engagement, this is a hard issue to volunteer for but now that I have all this knowledge and facts about abortion, I can properly educate and discuss this topic and maybe even help give recommendations to people in regards to abortions.
Civic engagement is important on any level of society and communities: cities, states and the world. This is because without civic engagement, there wouldn't be any people to help with problems or spread the word of a problem. Many people and large organizations have been able to spread the word of multiple different worldwide, or local issues and even educate people more on these issues, so they can gain support to help make a difference. Civic engagement is very important in opening peoples eyes to the problem within this world and also give them a chance to make a different whether its hanging an info graphic or donating millions of dollars to help human trafficking victims.
