Josey - Engagement Plan Blog

For my engagement I have decided I am going to design a flyer/infographic type thing that I am going to send out to the high school and everyone else I know. Because at this time it is difficult to go out and physically do something about it I am going to try to target my community and focus more on bringing awareness to people about how great and beneficial the outdoors are. I am also going to be focusing more on simply being outdoors and spending time in green space, and less about going to parks since lots of them are closed at this time, including play structures which are popular to children. I will probably title it the great outdoors or something else I come up with that is captivating to people. The flyer will have first a section with all the benefits. This will included mental and physical health on people, and it will also have a short section that talks about the benefits to the environment. These will be short paragraphs with science based facts on how being outdoors and spending time in parks are helping people. I will also have a section that includes how people have been taking advantage of the outdoors because of the coronavirus and encourage this to continue even if it is in much smaller quantities even when normal activities are picking back up. I still also want to include a map of all the parks in Houston and also outdoor spaces where you can just be in nature. Although I feel very limited in the way I can engage I want to still try to get to high schoolers and other people I know because often people can be stressed and forget to take a few minutes to go for a walk and just breathe.

Gabriel Han Sep 16 IHSS Cultural Anthropology Blog I read an article about the Dead Sea Scrolls, and a study around them conducted by MIT. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a series of ancient Hebrew texts that were discovered in 1947. The study was focused on one scroll known as the Temple scroll, out of the 900 or so scrolls. Andreas Cantu Mr. Roddy IHSS 12 April 2020 Chinese Immigration  Between the years 1845 and 1855 the US saw a massive influx of chinese immigrants. This was due to the gold rush in California. Chinese immigrants would leave the friends and family in search of a better life with more opportunities in America, and gold rush gave them their best shot at making it big in America. Although they had hopes to join the gold mining most of them took jobs with coal mining companies for little to no commision. Thoughts on Engagement

After doing the research for my challenge project on kill and no kill animal shelters, I have decided that I want to find a way to educate people on the internet without stating any form of opinion in order to be informative without being offensive. What I want to do is make a website that will have information both good and bad on kill and no kill animal shelters in an effort to educate the public on the matter. many people will for blind opinions on specifically kill shelters as they don't do the research and end up attacking people without any information on the matter.
