Political Systems - North Korea
North Korea is a country that his been in Political and Social strife for many years. There are two different views on their government that contradict each other in relation to what form it is. The constitution of North Korea states that it is a "Democratic Republic". If North Korea were a Democratic Republic, the people would have some say in who was choosing the policies that were put in to place, and some of the political positions would be based on heritage and family. North Korea, however, is not alike to this at all. The only resemblance that they hold to a Democratic Republic is that they call themselves the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea). Almost everyone with an outside perspective believes that North Korea is a Stalinist Totalitarian Dictatorship. Kim Jong Un holds full power over everything in the country, and nothing besides death can come in his way. Many people believe that this amount of power is wrong, including most of the citizens of North Korea itself. This idea of a Totalitarian Dictatorship means that there is one single person who holds more power than the rest of the country combined (and this is the exact state the country is in). There are a lot of conflicts here because of the protesting of their government. Although North Korea is internally referred to as a Democratic Republic, many of the events that occur there are thought of as inhumane in the rest of the world. In North Korea many of the things we don't even view as rights, instead just basic human life, are not consistent there. For example, it is basically impossible to leave or enter the country, or even move throughout the country. Only the political elite have vehicles, and access to means of transportation is next to nothing. There is forced prostitution throughout, and many women are subject to forced abortions. These are usually when women escape to China, and are brought back pregnant, because China has a legal obligation to deport all "illegal immigrants" back to North Korea. Overall the world there is very different from the United States, all of Western Civilization, and even the neighboring countries because of the current political state.
